About Me
Hello, my name is Huo and I like to travel.
I am a high school math teacher. When I have time and money, I will visit a new place or re-visit a place that I like. So far I have not been to many places; I am hoping to visit a lot more places in the next few years.
My Travel Philosophy
I believe traveling is a great learning experience. When I go to a new place or a foreign country, I like to learn about their culture and how the locals live. I like to visit universities, local markets, local restaurants, food stands, etc. It is not uncommon for me to walk for hours across the city. Subways and buses are my favorite means of transportation.
Why do you want to build this website?
Well I have been building my personal website since I was a high school student. This is the 11th version personal website that I built. I like to do a little programming in my own free time to keep myself busy and occupied.
I went to the 2015 New York Time Travel Show for the first time. At there, I learned that many travelers share their travel experience on their blogs. I found the idea very interesting. I also like to travel and I like to keep the memory so that I can look back in the future and also share experience to other travelers.
What is Huo's Coding Lab
Well I don't go travel everyday so when I run out of things to write about traveling, I program other stuffs for fun.
The Huo's Coding Lab offers lots of tools to help people to learn and to solve problems. I am continue to improve the existing programs and to develop new programs.
The reason why they are part of the huostravelblog.com domain is simple, cost saving.
How do you build this website?
Before I built my travel blog, I debated whether I should use any content management system such as WordPress. At the end I decided not to because I want to build it from scratch as much as possible.
The website is built using HTML, Javascript, Bootstrap, jQuery, php, Ajax, SQL, Flutter, and Dart. I also designed the search algorithm.
